About
I am a proactive, determined public speaker and growth associate at Google. I am committed to progress, inclusivity, and empowering individuals to achieve their goals.
Embrace the Journey, Celebrate the Progress
Progress is the driving force behind human nature. It fuels our aspirations, enables us to push beyond limits, and unlocks our full potential. If asked to summarize my life in one word, it would undoubtedly be ‘progress.’ I constantly strive to improve myself, leaving every situation, every room, and every person I encounter better than I found them. The path toward progress has been apart of me since I was a child.
Transforming Doubt into Determination
As a young boy, I lacked self-assurance and determination, but through hard work and personal development, I was able to blossom into a confident and articulate teenager. Participating in an annual speech contest throughout high school helped me develop my speaking skills and grow my confidence. My confidence has steadily grown, not due to any innate talent, but rather from the perseverance and dedication I have put into practicing and refining my skills.
Making the Commute Count
After high school I pursued a degree of Business Administration with an emphasis in Management Information Systems at San Diego State University Through my experiences as a commuter student at SDSU, I came to the realization that progress is the result of unwavering perseverance. Unlike most students, I did not have the luxury of walking to campus or driving a short distance. Rather, my commute required me to take the trolley for an hour and wait for up to 30 minutes at night. Despite the challenges of being a commuter student, I refused to let it hinder my college experience. From 10am to 10pm, I remained on campus, determined to take advantage of every opportunity available to me.
From Tradition to Transformation
Every individual deserves an equal opportunity to make a positive impact, discover their true calling, and pursue their passions. Unfortunately, some people deny others this chance, and as an advocate for fairness, I find such behavior reprehensible. When I joined San Diego State University Rotaract, which has been part of SDSU for 29 years, I encountered deeply entrenched traditions. One of those traditions was a dismal 20% acceptance rate that favored friendship over fairness and limited opportunities for growth and learning.
I realized that I needed to choose between giving up and letting the organization continue down its exclusive path or running for president and sharing my vision for a more inclusive future. My unwavering belief in my ability to make a difference drove me to run for president and ultimately win.
As president, my top priorities were to successfully transition the organization back to campus and create a more inclusive culture. I prioritized building relationships with my executive officers to understand their goals, priorities, and values. Before recruitment season, I facilitated a meeting to discuss our differences and identify common ground. By asking each member to write down five things they would change about the recruitment process, we found that ten of the fifteen suggestions were identical. We used this common ground to eliminate the 20% acceptance rate and increase our acceptance rate to 45%.
Fueled by Failure: My Journey to Internship Success
As college students, we are constantly reminded of the importance of internships in achieving success. From the very beginning of my freshman year, I took a proactive approach and began applying for internship opportunities in October. However, I faced rejection after rejection, but I refused to give up. My persistence finally paid off when the military contractor, Northrop Grumman, granted me an opportunity to interview, leading to an internship position as a contracts intern. This experience further fueled my ambition, and after working for Northrop Grumman, I decided to seek out other opportunities. During the summer before my junior year, I began researching and compiling a list of the top 50 companies to work for and intern with, and I applied to them as soon as possible.
Similar to my freshman year, I encountered numerous rejections, which I meticulously documented in a Google Document to keep myself accountable. Despite being rejected by 48 out of 50 companies, I remained undaunted, for I knew that every “no” brought me one step closer to an eventual “yes.” I was ultimately successful in securing an internship with Google, and I was not afraid of failure, for I had learned that every encounter presents an opportunity for growth and development.
